We are excited to announce two new ways of running prototype tests in Maze: Free explore and Screen-based success. Plus, visualize test results with a new optimized Sankey diagram.
What is it?
- Simplified usability testing with Goal-based tasks: Defining success for your usability tests is now as easy as selecting a starting point and a destination.
- Concept testing, without the workarounds: With the new Free explore task type, participants can freely navigate prototypes without set goals or success criteria, capturing their organic journeys and first impressions.
- Visualize user journeys: See how users navigate your prototypes with an easy-to-understand Sankey diagram, highlighting common paths, success routes, and drop-off points.
How it works
Creating a prototype test:
You can now choose between Goal-based and Free explore tasks, depending on your research goals:
- Free explore: Select a starting screen, and participants can explore freely, ending the test whenever they’re ready.
- Goal-based: Choose between Screen-based and Path-based success:
- Screen-based: Define success by selecting a starting and ending screen.
- Path-based: Define success by outlining the complete path.
Analyzing results:
The results metrics and visuals for your prototype test will be tailored to the selected task type. In both your Results and Report, you’ll find an optimized Sankey diagram that makes it easy to visualize and understand the paths participants took, highlighting how they reached success or where they dropped off:
- Under Results, select the Diagram tab to review the Sankey diagram for your prototype
- Click on the screen name within the Sankey diagram to review screen performance with heatmaps and Clips
- Use the Simplify View option to group outliers together and focus on the most followed paths
Availability: The prototype testing updates are available on all Maze plans.
