The Observer room is now live!

We’ve heard your feedback: You want to invite stakeholders into your moderated research in real-time without disrupting the interview flow. That’s why we built the Observer room—a discreet, one-way window into moderated interviews in Maze.

Now, your stakeholders can join sessions live without influencing participants, helping your team align faster, collaborate smarter, and act with greater confidence.

How it works

  1. Go to the ‘Recruit’ page in your Interview Study
  2. In Recruitment settings, choose Maze conferencing
  3. Select Allow observers to enable the Observer room and generate a passcode
  4. Recruit participants as usual
  5. On the Recruit page, click the ellipsis (⋯) next to a scheduled session
  6. Copy observer invite to share the conferencing link + passcode with stakeholders
  7. Observers can then discreetly join and use a private chat with the host and other observers

How it can help you

Preserve research quality

Keep interviews natural and unbiased. Participants only see the moderator—not the full audience—so conversations flow authentically, even around sensitive topics.

Drive empathy through visibility

For many stakeholders, live research is a rare, privileged view into the user’s world. Observing interviews as they unfold helps stakeholders feel the nuance behind the data, building trust in the findings and empathy for the people behind them.

Foster alignment & collaboration

Research shouldn’t be a solo effort. Invite observers from product, design, marketing, or leadership, and use the private chat to exchange notes, flag follow-ups, and spark ideas in real time—without interrupting the session.

Availability

The Observer room is available in Interview Studies, exclusively for customers on Organization plans. (Not available on Free, Starter, or Legacy plans.)
