A heatmap is a visual representation of user behavior that results from tracking interactions—such as clicks, scrolls, or cursor movements—across a website or product. It highlights which areas attract the most attention and which are overlooked, helping designers understand user engagement patterns.
There are different types of heatmaps:
1. Click maps highlight where users click the most
2. Scroll maps show how far users scroll on a page, helping identify if key content is visible
3. Move maps track cursor movements to understand which areas draw attention
