Usability Heuristics

Usability heuristics are a set of guidelines and principles for designing user-friendly products, features, and experiences from the get-go. These heuristics were developed by Jakob Nielsen, renowned UX leader and Co-Founder of Nielsen Norman Group, and provide guidance for ensuring user interface and experience design is intuitive and accessible.
Some examples of usability heuristics include:
- Visibility of system status: the ability to keep users informed about what’s happening behind the scenes, e.g. loading screens
- User control and freedom: the ability to give users control over the system and recover from mistakes, e.g. ‘Go Back’ buttons
- Flexibility and efficiency of use: the ability to provide various options for completing tasks, e.g. multiple navigation routes to key pages
