Best practices for a successful idea validation process

1. Write down any and all assumptions about your idea. The more, the better—this is the stage you want to test out all possibilities to see how well your idea fits with your target market. Simple examples of assumptions can be: “Our target audience will want to use this product”, or “Our pricing model will be attractive to our target audience.”

2. Find the right research participants. You’ll want to test your idea on people who fit the profile of your target market. You can do this easily in Maze by sourcing from our diverse Testers Panel (with rich demographic filters to narrow down location, job title, gender, and much more). Alternatively, if you already have an ideal set of participants to test, you can manage your own tailored database.

Frequently asked questions

What is idea validation?

Idea validation is the process of testing your ideas out with users to understand their viability in your target market. It’s important because it helps to weed out ideas that can waste your time and resources, and allows you to make better business decisions for moving ahead with.

When should idea validation take place?

While we’re big believers of continuous learning and testing at every stage here at Maze, idea validation only really works early on in the process. You need to gather feedback that there’s a place in the market for your idea early on, before dedicating valuable time and resources to your cause.
